Every year, Women in Construction Week shines a spotlight on the hardworking women who help build and strengthen our communities. From job sites and union halls to engineering offices and project management teams, women across the construction industry continue to break barriers and build the future of our cities.
Here in Buffalo and Western New York, we are fortunate to see that dedication firsthand. At Collins & Collins Attorneys, we proudly stand with the women of the trades and thank them for the hard work, determination, and leadership they bring to the construction industry every single day.

A Special Day at the New Buffalo Bills Stadium
On Thursday, March 5th, we had the honor of attending the Women in Construction Week 2026 Ladies Lunch & Learn held at the site of the new Buffalo Bills stadium. It was an incredible experience to gather alongside so many talented tradeswomen, union members, and industry professionals who are helping shape one of the most exciting construction projects in Western New York History.
Events like this remind us that construction is about more than steel, concrete, and cranes—it’s about people, community, and pride in building something that will stand for generations.

The Growing Impact of Women in Construction
Women have always played an important role in construction, but their presence continues to grow every year. While the industry has traditionally been male-dominated, progress is happening, and the numbers tell a powerful story:
Today, over 1.3 million women work in the U.S. construction industry.
Women now make up about 11–12% of the construction workforce, the highest percentage in more than two decades.
Over the last decade, the number of women in construction has increased by roughly 45%.
Since 2015, the number of women working directly in construction trades has grown by more than 77%.
Despite this progress, women still represent only a small percentage of workers in many skilled trades, which is why initiatives like Women in Construction Week are so important. They help highlight opportunities, encourage the next generation of tradeswomen, and celebrate the leaders who are paving the way.
Why Women in Construction Week Matters
Construction is one of the most important industries in our country. It builds the infrastructure that keeps our communities running—from bridges and highways to schools, hospitals, and stadiums.
Encouraging more women to enter the trades helps strengthen the industry in several ways:
Expands the workforce during a nationwide skilled labor shortage
Brings new perspectives and leadership to the job site
Creates opportunities for high-paying careers with strong union benefits
Builds a stronger, more diverse industry for the future
For Western New York especially, where union labor plays such a vital role in our economy, the continued growth of women in construction helps ensure that the region’s projects—from downtown development to the new Bills stadium—are built by the best workforce possible.
